   World Forest 2000 Australian Native Forest Carbon Offset Plantation
Welcome to World Forest 2000!

World Forest 2000 is a not-for-profit foundation conceived jointly in Australia and Germany. A touchstone for increased environmental responsibility in the new millennium. The aim of World Forest 2000 is to help educate people to become more conscious of the way they live and the repercussions those habits have on the environment. Our eco forest represents the optimism and belief that we can all make a positive contribution to our planet - no matter how small the conscious gesture!

World Forest 2000 has been planned with the highest possible ecological standards in mind and a holistic approach has been undertaken to ensure these standards are met on every level.

Here are some of the key environmental features of the 'Forest':

  • the aim to plant one million trees in the Forest (currently we have 40,000 planted) will have a positive effect on carbon balance, helping reduce the impact of gas emissions on the environment, thereby native plants will predominate;

  • with over 40 species of trees and shrubs planned to ensure the survival of local rare and endangered plants, existing vegetation will be retained and regenerated;

  • trees planted will protect the survival of bushfire affected native animals (koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wallaroos, possums, sugar gliders and echidnas) and introduced species, providing a safe dwelling in the Forest; and

  • over 100 kinds of native birds will play an integral role in biological control of insects throughout the Forest, thereby reducing the need for (biodegradable) herbicides.
Individuals, groups and companies can participate in World Forest 2000 by purchasing trees, either as gifts for themselves or friend or colleague. These trees are then planted on their behalf on the Banalasta property. Planting a tree is a symbolic gesture, and because of the tree's ability to combat environmental abuse such as the effects of greenhouse gas build-up, it's a practical one too!

Only native trees are planted, approximately 40 different species, many of which are threatened providing the best possible mix of flora for the environment, the soil and the indigenous animals.

Each tree is and will continue to be individually catalogued and marked on a map of World Forest 2000. The design concept of the Forest will be the planting of the native trees in the shapes of the five continents. A small area near the Visitors' Centre has been planted in the shape of the World Forest logo (a stylised tree).

The person for whom you buy the tree will receive a commemorative certificate bearing their name, your name, the occasion, and the message of your choice. We can also inscribe a plaque with a special message.

To date, World Forest 2000 spans 40 hectares of the 3000 hectare property.
