Rolf Blickling has established his 10-ha vineyard, planted to riesling, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz, at an elevation of 95m. Frosts in spring and April underline how cool the climate is, necessitating careful site selection. The cellar door also operates a lavender and eucalyptus oil distillery.
4.5/5 Stars: Sauvignon Blanc 2005
An attractive mix of tropical, passionfruit, gooseberry and stone fruit aromas and flavours; excellent acidity; well-made. Screwcap, 12% alc. RATING 91. DRINK Now $20
4.5/5 Stars: Wooded Chardonnay 2005
Subtle oak balance and integration; in the opposite direction to the unwooded version, seemingly with lower alcohol (it’s higher) with elegant stone fruit and some cashew. Screwcap, 13.5% alc. RATING 90 DRINK 2010 $20
4/5 Stars Riesling 2005
Generous, sweet lime juice; open and inviting; good finish. Screwcap, 11.7% alc. RATING 89 DRINK 2008 $18
4/5 Stars Pinot Noir 2004
Firm, savoury, briary, foresty flavours; undoubted varietal character, but seems to have been picked too early. Much promise. Screwcap, 12.5% alc. RATING 89 DRINK 2010 $22
4/5 Stars Unwooded Chardonnay 2005
Riper flavours than the restrained bouquet would suggest, with yellow peach and fig fruit. Screwcap, 12.3% alc. RATING 87 DRINK 2008 $18
