A Gift For All Occasions

The World Forest 2000, although still young, already has 25,000 seedlings of 40 different native species (some threatened) planted. During spring of 2000, another 10,000 seedlings will be planted. This increases World Forest 2000 to a grant total of 35,000 tress.

The addition of new sponsors has helped fund the project enormously. World Forest 2000 thanks you for your support. As new sponsors participate, World Forest 2000 will grow, helping combat green house gas build up while providing a safe habitat for wildlife.

A tree in the World Forest makes a great gift idea for many occasions, including graduations, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, to celebrate a new birth, as a gift for yourself or to remember someone close. On occasions some sponsors have used two tress and one certificate as a gift. It’s ideal for weddings, birth or twins, a present for mum or dad, for commemorating a long lasting friendship or as a Valentines gift.

In addition to the gift of a tree, personalised certificate and annual newsletters is the ‘Tree and Oil’ pack. The sponsor or the recipient of the gift receives 50mL of Banalasta Eucalyptus radiata oil once a year of 5 years. This oil is ideal for aromatherapy uses and is extracted slowly in a ‘water bath’ method to ensure exceptional high quality. Sponsorship of the tree and oil pack is popular for the attractiveness of the gift but also as a thoughtful ‘reminder’ of an occasion or event. In World Forest 2000, a sponsorship or gift sponsorship is s gift that keeps on giving. It is special and will be remembered.

…but World Forest 2000 is a gift that lasts a lifetime.

Mark Rigney, 23, went out on a limb when he proposed to his girlfriend, Aysha McCarron, also 23, on January 2.

Instead of getting down on bended knee, Mark bought Aysha a tree. But this was not just any tree – this was one that forms part of World Forest 2000, a non-profit foundation designed to increase environmental responsibility in the new millennium.

Aysha’s tree came with a certificate that says, “The start of a new beginning. Aysha, will you marry me? Love Mark.”

Naturally she said “yes”.

“Getting the tree was great. It was something different,” Aysha says.

The first stage of the World Forest 2000 will be in the New England area of New South Wales, where more than one million trees will be planted in the shape of the five continents.

“Planting a tree is a symbolic gesture and, because of the tree’s ability to combat the effects of greenhouse gas, it?s also practical,” says World Forest spokesman Jonathan Noal.

The forest has been planned with the highest possible ecological standards in mind. Only native trees are planted, as these provide the best mix of flora for the environment, the soil and the birds and animals that live in the forest.

Nesting boxes will also be provided to attract the may species of Australian birds and mammals that require holes for nesting.

Each tree will be individually catalogued and marked on a map and a small area near the visitors centre will be planted with species from each continent for educational purposes.

People who buy trees receive a commemorative certificate that bears their name, the occasion, and a personal message. Inscribed plaques are also available, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each tree will be donated to the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

A tree will also be planted for every medal-winning athlete.

For Sydneysiders Stephan and Angela Wright who received a tree as a gift for their baby Oliver, born on November 26 last year, the forest is a lasting reminder of the circle of life.

“Having a baby is a powerful experience. It makes you appreciate life and the environment. The tree is a way of giving something back,” Stephen says.

Stephen says that he and Angela will seek out Oliver’s tree when he is older.

“It will be a nice way to introduce him to the concept of nature and conservation, and show him why it is relevant to him.”
